Use an effective web site tag line
Help visitors feel at home in those first few moments

Everyone wants to feel comfortable when they arrive someplace new. It doesn't matter if it's a new town, a new store or a new restaurant. In the first few moments, there are lots of questions.

  • Did we find right place?
  • Does it offer what we need?
  • Does it meet our expectations?
  • Do we want to stay longer?

For web sites, those first few moments are critical, especially since it only takes a simple click of a Back button to leave your 'town.'

You can help your web site visitors feel more comfortable in seconds by using an effective tag line--a very short phrase that clearly summarizes the purpose of your web site or your business.

Tips:

  • Tag lines should be clear and factual.
  • Focus on what you provide or what someone will get.
  • Use a complete phrase or sentence, rather than a list of words.

Tag line examples:

  • Improving web sites with a new point of view
  • Your complete resource for off-road motorcycling in Washington state
  • Business coaching for professionals

Here's a few more tag line tips from one of our writing partners, Sharon Baerny, from We Know Words

  • Tag lines should be easy or fun to say.
  • Tag lines should either explain or intrigue.
  • Tag lines are like a shadow of your business name, either clarifying what you do, or clarifying how you differ from your competition.
  • Tag lines shouldn't be generic slogans that can work for your competitor's business as easily as for yours.
